Calling Sehmat

Calling Sehmat

0800hours,
Given a chance if I were to meet a person from the past, she would undoubtedly be Ms. Sehmat Khan.
Sehmat, the most beautiful Indian spy with a soft heart who crossed her limits to perform her duty. Her lover, Aby described her as poetry in motion SEHMAT KHAN.
I'm completely in awe of how well she played the role of a responsible daughter, a brave and an honest citizen of her watan, a trustworthy friend, a sincere student, a loyal lover to her Aby, a godmother to her students, and of course a lovely mother to her soldier son. I'll not be surprised if I missed any!
I saw the movie based on this book *Raazi* two years back but this book is indeed a page-turner.
The book made me see Sehmat more closely and admire her aura and charm in every possible way. She was helpful and kind to everyone and had this amazing aura around herself that made her unique. In an enemy country, she confided herself in her diary and often wrote poetries longing for the air of her soil which depicted how badly she missed her Kashmir valley, her mother, and her first love Aby.
A couplet from her poetry goes like this:

"I have emotions that are meaningless,
The courage that is worthless,
I have a journey ahead that is aimless,
I dream yet to reach my destination,
I yet pray to fly free."

She faced the jaw of death and came back victorious to the warmth of her motherland via her intellect after having done her part. After all her deeds her humility was such that she never intended to disclose her identity and her sacrifices. Hence, she humbly excused herself from the grand gesture and recognition by the Govt of India for her selfless service to the nation.
Due to her efforts, India was able to win the 1971 Indo-Pak war decisively and save INS Vikrant.
Our nation owes a huge debt to this unsung warrior who selflessly sacrificed her youthful years of college days and her life for the country.
